Safety Meeting Records Quiet Life’s Act Natural is a breath of fresh air in a world ruled by pop punk and rap groups. This progressive indie quartet from New London, Connecticut has merged bluegrass twang with deep, sentimental lyrics to produce otherworldly music that is the perfect backdrop to your everyday life.
The songs on their new album are a diverse mix, ranging from the angst-filled “Did You Love Me” to a ditty called “Leah,” describing the events of a one night stand that took place between a man and the woman he met at a bar. The band both objectifies and glorifies women in their music, allowing the whole virgin/whore concept to run ramped through their lyrics. They talk about a woman’s sexual prowess in “Leah” and sweet, innocent love in their slower tune entitled “Head in the Clouds.”
Overall, however, Quiet Life’s Act Natural is a celebration of life in all of its different forms, pain and pleasure included. It’s not that the entire band is made up of misogynists; it’s just that they want the listener to feel everything that a woman can bring into a man’s world, both the good and the bad.
