Warner BrosLike those of currently popular bands Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco, the Josephine Collective's We Are the Air provides the listener with over an hour of commercially dubbed emo and pop punk satiation. While not terribly original or innovative, the band's music is listenable, and its members clearly have talent. Their tunes, however, are nearly indistinguishable from one another and do not boast any profound lyrical content.
As a Panic at the Disco fan, I appreciated the vocals; the singers sound very similar, but I prefer Panic over Josephine. While many bands of this musical style were formed at practically the same time, those with catchier tunes seem to be the ones already getting the most attention.
Fans of this genre will undoubtedly enjoy this album. If you feel like you need more pop punk in your collection We Are the Air is for you. If you think your collection is fairly adequate, you may want to let this one slide on by for now. While I may not change the station when I hear a song from The Josephine Collective on the radio, I don't expect to be opening the album on iTunes in the near – or distant – future.

I appreciate your review of the Josephine Collective tunes. I beg to differ, however with your assertion that the songs are indistinguishable... you must not have really listened to the songs.
I suggest that you do not make assertions as to the lyrical content of a band's music without first reading and/or listening to the lyrics.
Also, the statement that you prefer Panic to Josephine is irrelavent.
I prefer eating cake to using Dove shampoo on my hair.
Kind of out of left field.
Thanks though.
(and yes, the music is listenable, very insightful...unless you are deaf, ALL music is listenable. whether or not it is pleasing to the ear is a matter of opinion)
Sarah- Your logic here is faulty. Since Lizz is comparing two similar objects (Panic and Josephine), in order to make your point, you also need to compare two similar objects (say, Dove shampoo and V05 shampoo). Instead you are comparing two dissimilar objects (Dove shampoo and chocolate cake), and therefore, fail to make a salient argument.
Perhaps you should tell us why it is that you like this band's music and lyrics, which may give us some insight into this record that Lizz's perspective failed to provide.
I was being sarcastic, using an exaggeration. I was commenting on the faulty rhetorical strategy. She uses something so specific as Panic at the Disco to compare to JC. It implies that Panic at the Disco, in her opinion, is better than JC. However, the reader may not be a panic fan, or may be one, and still like JC. It doesn't really advance her point, it's a bad journalistic tactic.
Here's why I like Josephine Collective...
1. Their music is unique. Yes the album is a touch over-produced, but if you check out their old stuff you'll find it to be the same music without the overproduction.
2. Their lyrics. Absolutely no cliche bullshit like ALL pop-punk bands seem to be dishing out.
3. They don't wear girls jeans and eyeliner.
4. They are the most genuine people you'll ever meet. Not a speck of "rockstar bullshit and arrogance"
I could go on...
I love you Sarah. <3
I found this review flat for exactly the same reasons as Sarah...Did the Reviewer truly listen to the lyrics?
Living opens with "get up cause it's morning Cousin, they found your Mother all tore up in a ditch" a personal reference to a sad but true real life experience of drug addiction and tragedy on snowy day..."all that's white is blood red"
Crack My Heart - LOVE the chorus of "Scream your loudest If he's in your basement If he's touching your skin I'll kill him
Hemorrhage to his head
Said I'd paint this whole town red
Crack my heart and spill it"
One reviewer actually called this a Happy song!
Lye - A song about watching a sister mourn the loss of a stepfather...
I can go on, but instead I ask that you go back and actually catch all the lyrics...
"Intense cold rush now to the head
A blood that flows oh so intense
Though our hearts so rhythmic
It strolls our our vains so effortless
It keeps us entertained and interested
Singing that same old lovers song
About a heart strung out too long
It just stops"
A quote from the chorus of Josephine Collective's "Living"
